Hi Brian,

As someone with a prophetic streak, I have really been digging your prophecy posts. I was just catching up on your blog tonight and was going to comment that "Fallacy #7" was my favorite post on the subject so far, but this one really struck me, too. My take-away from both: "Is my message rooted in love, and does it cast a hopeful vision?"

When I feel that burning passion to write or speak on something I know will push buttons, it has always been helpful for me to run my thoughts by Scott first. His amazing gift of shepherding is a great counter-point to my gifts. (Yea even earlier tonight he--very wisely--talked me down from posting something.) These last two posts have helped give specific insight to why he was right.

Thanks, and keep it coming!

Hi Brian,

Brueggemann's five themes will be posted on my office wall at church as soon as I get to work in the morning. I also plan to buy the book and am really looking forward to reading it. I think I need a book like this. To the extent that I internalize it, it will help me discern the difference between times when I should keep my mouth shut and times when I should speak up regardless of the consequences.

Thanks for helping me keep my head in the only game that matters.

this post gets me even more excited about the book. can't wait until it arrives.

i think brueggemann captures the part of God that i always know but rarely experience in others--that he cannot be controlled and is in fact at work disrupting the various ways we try to manage our own reality for the sake of his glory.

i thought a little about our phone conversation and how you mentioned he and friedmann are both NOT conservative--i think there is something in the NOT-conservative faction that gets marginalization and God's prophetic heart. not saying conservatives can't get it, but seem to rarely connect at a heart level with that area of God.
