I came across a brief quote in ESPN Magazine from Ozzie Newsome, former Alabama football player and Hall of Fame NFL player. He was relaying the four basic principles that legendary coach Bear Bryant passed on to his players.
Here they are:
- No one is more important than the team.
- Whatever your skill level, you must do your best.
- Know how to finish, on the field and in life.
- Show your class regardless of the situation.
It’s interesting, there’s components of humility, dynamic determination, and emotional intelligence all within those four principles. I’m not sure these four things cover the basics of leadership, but they’re good words to live by.
