On a recommendation from a friend, I read this short book on writing style, How to Write With Flair by Heather Holleman. This is a writing book so not the type of book many run out to get, but this is an extremely helpful resource to improve one’s quality of writing and develop one’s writing “voice.”
A section is dedicated to verb use, another to more advanced punctuation, another to paragraph construction (more exciting than you think!), and more. This will be a book I come back to as I plan to do a lot of writing in 2020. But whether you are blogging, working on resumes, or working on a dissertation – this can help!
Heather uses the cooking metaphor to bring together her writing tips, which helped me keep an eye on the big picture intentions of writing with the nuts and bolts of what goes into the dish. If you do any writing, I think this is an artistic and practical resource that will immediately give lift to your writing.
