Would You Pray for Our Dad’s?

Would You Pray for Christine’s Dad?

I (Christine) will be traveling from this weekend to next to care for and support my parents in Palo Alto as my dad, Bob Bowen, will have heart surgery to replace a valve. He noticed something wasn’t right before Christmas and now his surgery is scheduled for January 28th at the Stanford Medical Center.  You can pray for the surgery to go well and for my dad’s recovery. You can pray for us as we care for him in his recovery. You can pray for Brian and the kids as I’ll be gone for a week.  Thank you!

Would You Pray for Brian’s Dad?

One of the shocks to us in the last month was my dad being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  My dad began losing a lot of weight in November and December and slowly became jaundiced as well. A lot of appointments later, we learned of a tumor on the pancreas that was blocking the functions of the pancreas, kidneys, and gall bladder. Fortunately, some of those issues were able to be resolved in the last couple of weeks with some minor procedures, but they confirmed the cancer.

While it has been hard news to digest and process, especially so soon after my mom’s passing, there are some reasons to be encouraged. The cancer has not spread and doctors are optimistic about treatment moving forward.  The next steps are meeting with the surgeon next week and scheduling the surgery to remove the tumor as well as consulting with an oncologist for the next steps in that direction. We are asking you to pray with us that the surgery gets scheduled ASAP and for full healing and total removal of any cancer. Pray for us as a family as we journey with my dad in the months to come.

So 2025 has not kicked off quite like we would have hoped, but we are finding comfort in our God whose perfect love continues to cast out fear (1 Jn 4:13-21).  Psalm 145 has been an encouragement:

17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and kind in all his works.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.

Thank you for your prayers as we continue to serve in the ministry and as we serve our families as well. We are grateful for you.

                                         In Christ,

                                                Brian & Christine
