The Need for Peacemakers
There is no need to convince anyone that conflict handled poorly wreaks havoc on relationships, communities, and institutions everywhere. No one is immune to conflict because each of us carries identities and preferences that are different from many around us, including at times from those closest to us!
But what if we could handle those differences wisely and well?
What if we could enter into conflict with an eye and heart for the transformational opportunities for both ourselves and for others in ways that lead to flourishing instead of diminishment? Where relationships can not only foster civility but connection?
One of the ways conflict can lead to escalation and damage is trying to handle it alone when emotions are running rampant and there’s a lack of tools to engage the relationship wisely.
You don’t have to! There are many trained conciliators who can help you process conflict for heart and relational transformation as well as for healthy and just resolution over material disagreements.
Conflict Coaching and Mediation
In addition to being a peace researcher, I’m trained and have hundreds of hours of experience in the areas of personal peacemaking, conflict and leadership negotiation, conflict coaching, and mediation. As a conciliator and mediator trained to help guide people towards resolution and reconciliation, there are two main ways I can support you in your peacemaking efforts: Conflict Coaching and Mediation.
Conflict Coaching
Conflict coaching is in essence helping you to negotiate with the party you are in conflict with yourself. Coaches in this context can assist and guide a process of self-reflection, goal-setting, and empathetic perspective taking so that someone can discern one’s own possible contributions to the conflict in humility and establish a respectful and constructive plan for conversation.
Mediation
While conflict coaching helps you to handle a difficult conflict on your own, mediation is an option if those attempts are not fruitful or if the issues or too complex and the relationship too fractured. A mediator facilitates a safe and structured process to help parties in conflict resolve material disagreements and work towards reconciliation and healing relationally. Mediation typically includes conflict coaching of individuals in preparation for joint sessions together.
Requesting Conciliation
At the present moment, I happen to be working on an additional conciliation, coaching, and mediation certification that require additional numbers of conflict cases for practicum. I am not charging for either conflict coaching or mediation.
