“But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord!”

A few times of the past 9 months we’ve asked for prayer for an IGSL graduate from Bhutan who was arrested and has been on trial for illegal ministry activities.  The journey has been a challenging one with many twists and turns. But prayers were answered!  The sentence was reduced to under 3 years which in Bhutan allows for a fine instead of jail time. This was as good of what could have been hoped for.  Pastor Tandin (IGSL class of 2008) was able to pay the fine and return home to his family and continue his ministry!  Read his letter to IGSL faculty and students in the wake of the news….

Dear IGSL Family,                                                       February 2, 2015

I, Pastor Tandin Wangyal, my wife Nengboi Chongloi and my three sons (Kuenrab, Phuensum and Jetsan L. Wangyal) extend our deepest thanks to all of you. God from Heaven has answered your unceasing prayers and tears with the miraculously victory in the Samste Royal Court of Justice. It has never happened before in such magnitude of constitutional fight of one’s own right of faith and religion in Bhutan. This truly is the answered prayers of millions!

I am writing this to thank each one of you, as you stood with us through this entire ordeal journey. IGSL, each one of you stood with us by your prayers and moral support. There were times, when I did not know WHAT next? What will happen to my family, if I will have to serve the mandatory prison term? How will my children take this? What will be their view towards the Loving God, who says, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Those thoughts kept daunting in my lives! But God continued to manifest his presence in many ways even during such times as this.

During this entire journey in our lives, God never deserted us. In fact, he continued to show His presence and love through dreams, angelic-visions, still voices and through the promises of His Holy Scriptures. His presence was further manifested powerfully, as I spent hours in prayer interceding for my family and freedom. Even during the darkest period in the dungeon, God’s promises of peace in John 14:27 were ever present in my life. Of course my “theology” was tested! If I have to give one and ONLY message out of this ordeal and that is the “Power of Prayer” that I learn in the school of sufferings.

Every sun rise that I see and fresh air that I breathe in is the greatest freedom that God has given me. Now I am able hold my kids and wife in arms in freedom and joy. As a family, we make this resolution in 2015 that no matter what, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).

IGSL-Family, we love and thank you in millions for your unwavering support and unceasing prayers for us. Celebrate the Victory of the Lord!

Pastor Tandin and his faith in Christ through his suffering and challenges has been both sobering and inspiring to students and faculty here. Many students are quite aware that they may encounter similar struggles and it’s humbling to see them intentionally developing a foundation of character and faith to prepare for possible sufferings and persecutions.  Continue to pray for Pastor Tandin and the leaders being raised up to take the gospel to the least reached parts of Asia!

                                     In Christ,    Brian and Christine
