Dear Friends,
We’re back in the U.S. after about 19 hours total in the air. We’re starting to get the hang of this travel thing! Or maybe our kids are just older 🙂
While it’s been great to be back with family and we’re beginning to see friends and connect with many of you, one of the big things we’ve shared in past updates was the appointment we had set up with Shriner’s children’s hospital this week for Morgan to be evaluated regarding cerebral palsy and where she’s at in her development. We had the appointment yesterday and overall it’s a big answer to prayer, but our next steps mean a little bit different of a summer than we originally thought.
The recommendation was that Morgan undergo a surgical procedure to lengthen her achilles tendon to allow for a fuller range of motion. Morgan has really grown the last year and her bones have far outgrown her muscles and tendons leading to more pronounced symptoms. Amazingly, they were able to schedule her for surgery THIS Tuesday morning at Shriner’s in Pasadena, CA. After the surgery, Morgan’s leg will be casted for 6 weeks at which point she’ll start some physical therapy and be in another leg brace (AFO) for another month until she regains strength.
It’s an answer to prayer as we got very clear answers to the questions we’ve been asking and a very hopeful picture came together from the doctors. We’re not sure about the expenses yet, but we’re extremely grateful that all of this will be able to happen before we return to Manila and the kids return to school.
This obviously presents some challenges when we’ll be on the road visiting many this summer. We are not changing our timeline at this point, but we may have to take a bit slower of a pace at points than we were planning.
You can be praying for Morgan. This process and surgery is moving her towards some deeper levels of processing about this part of her story and it’s a huge disappointment to her to have to be casted for the majority of our time in the U.S. But you can pray that she would begin to experience the Lord more personally through this and see His hand in shaping her story.
