Ministry Week in Zambales!

Dear Friends!

This past week was one of opportunities in the school year where all faculty members take their student mentoring groups to the field! This is really an incredible week. 300 total students, faculty, and school employees go together in small teams all over the Philippines for ministry.  Yearly as a school we see several thousand people come to Christ through the ministry of these 40 or so ministry teams. But beyond people coming to Christ, the real long-term impact often comes through the  evangelism, discipleship, ministry and leadership training that is offered to to many pastors and leaders that are eager and desperate for training to do the work God has called  them to.

Our team had an opportunity to provide ministry training to a loose interdenominational consortium of pastors and churches in the province of Zambales in northern Luzon (About 4-5 hours north of Manila). My small group all took turns doing different trainings and seminars related to evangelism and doing basic follow up while also  providing coaching to different pastoral teams present.

What stood out to me was the readiness these leaders   had for training. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such hunger and enthusiasm for training on evangelism and how to help young believers get grounded in their faith.  Let me share a couple brief examples of how significant this time was for them!

One Pastor captured the general sentiment really well saying,

“We have been trying to encourage our church members to tell people about Jesus, but they don’t know how and we as leaders don’t really know how either. So fear always wins out. This training and the experience of learning to practice it in the community with you is exactly what we needed!”

We heard story after story how these churches were trying to do evangelism, but they did not know what to do. What was even more exciting is that 3 of the churches have a clear vision to pioneer campus ministries on nearby universities and they have permission and the blessing of the university administrations.  They just didn’t know what to do next!

Dondi from Indonesia and Quang from Vietnam in addition to myself all have a lot of campus ministry experience so we were able  to help them in their thinking and preparation for how to launch these ministries with their new evangelism and follow-up skills. They are taking their first steps THIS SEPTEMBER so please pray  for these ministry efforts.  I wish I could capture the excitement, but it was such a joy to serve in a particular place and time where it was clear that God has sovereignly had brought us all together.

The host church is following up these people THIS week with their new follow-up skills!  They were  nervous but excited! Please pray for them!

But our team was 1 of about 40 teams on the field this past week! A unique opportunity was an invitation from some key officials in Tacloban City to do leadership training with several hundred leaders from different sectors of society including business, military, and public safety, but all teams had exciting opportunities for ministry and impact.

See some of these pictures of some of those events and many of the other outreaches throughout the Philippines below. What a great week both for outreach and continued leadership development for our students!
