It’s been A LOT of work for her, but she’s pretty inspired by the opportunity.  Please pray for the outreach, for the ministry and leadership development for the women putting it on, and for the follow up  efforts to be made by the ministry team that we have regularly visiting

CHRISTIAN MARRIAGE
Christine and I were able to substitute teach a session in the
Christian marriage class last week. It was great fun sharing our story with a new class of students and their spouses. It opened up same great doors to connect with some individuals after the fact who were seeking to strengthen their marriages. It’s been good for us to continue to grow and develop in the arena of ministering as a couple to couples.

I’ve been very thankful for the opportunity to help catalyze this process for the school’s future.  You can pray for the development of the next generation of faculty leadership for the future of IGSL!

“But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord!”

A few times of the past 9 months we’ve asked for prayer for an IGSL graduate from Bhutan who was arrested and has been on trial for illegal ministry activities.  The journey has been a challenging one with many twists and turns. But prayers were answered!  The sentence was reduced to under 3 years which in Bhutan allows for a fine instead of jail time. This was as good of what could have been hoped for.  Pastor Tandin (IGSL class of 2008) was able to pay the fine and return home to his family and continue his ministry!  Read his letter to IGSL faculty and students in the wake of the news….

Dear IGSL Family,                                                       February 2, 2015

I, Pastor Tandin Wangyal, my wife Nengboi Chongloi and my three sons (Kuenrab, Phuensum and Jetsan L. Wangyal) extend our deepest thanks to all of you. God from Heaven has answered your unceasing prayers and tears with the miraculously victory in the Samste Royal Court of Justice. It has never happened before in such magnitude of constitutional fight of one’s own right of faith and religion in Bhutan. This truly is the answered prayers of millions!

I am writing this to thank each one of you, as you stood with us through this entire ordeal journey. IGSL, each one of you stood with us by your prayers and moral support. There were times, when I did not know WHAT next? What will happen to my family, if I will have to serve the mandatory prison term? How will my children take this? What will be their view towards the Loving God, who says, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Those thoughts kept daunting in my lives! But God continued to manifest his presence in many ways even during such times as this.

During this entire journey in our lives, God never deserted us. In fact, he continued to show His presence and love through dreams, angelic-visions, still voices and through the promises of His Holy Scriptures. His presence was further manifested powerfully, as I spent hours in prayer interceding for my family and freedom. Even during the darkest period in the dungeon, God’s promises of peace in John 14:27 were ever present in my life. Of course my “theology” was tested! If I have to give one and ONLY message out of this ordeal and that is the “Power of Prayer” that I learn in the school of sufferings.

Every sun rise that I see and fresh air that I breathe in is the greatest freedom that God has given me. Now I am able hold my kids and wife in arms in freedom and joy. As a family, we make this resolution in 2015 that no matter what, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).

IGSL-Family, we love and thank you in millions for your unwavering support and unceasing prayers for us. Celebrate the Victory of the Lord!

Pastor Tandin and his faith in Christ through his suffering and challenges has been both sobering and inspiring to students and faculty here. Many students are quite aware that they may encounter similar struggles and it’s humbling to see them intentionally developing a foundation of character and faith to prepare for possible sufferings and persecutions.  Continue to pray for Pastor Tandin and the leaders being raised up to take the gospel to the least reached parts of Asia!

National Tragedy

“I remember you. Can you teach us again from the word of God?”

These were the words spoken by one of the 36 survivors of the recent “Mamasapano Massacre” as it’s being called to a fellow faculty member who was invited to minister to these survivors out of an original force of 78 police special action forces.

Last week the Philippines experienced a national tragedy that has sparked much grief and political outrage.  The implications are significant politically here and for IGSL as we’ll explain.

Philippines police special action forces conducted an operation in Mindanao, where the Muslim rebels reside, to serve arrest warrants for high ranking terrorists, including one named Marwan who is one of the FBI’s most wanted. There are reports he was involved in a failed attempt to assassinate Pope Francis a couple weeks ago as well.  A conflict broke out between the special action force and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Bangsomoro Islamic Freedom Fighters. Amidst poor police coordination and no military backup, the special action force was caught between groups. But what happened after is where the outrage is – Over half of the 44 were still alive after the conflict yet these Islamic groups murdered all the wounded in horrific fashion.

This all takes place during efforts to bring peace between the Philippines and Islamic rebels. Muslim countries in the area are putting a lot of pressure on the Philippines government to work out a peace agreement.  Right now, that is in danger as many in the Philippines are crying out for retaliation and war.  The police have threatened a walk out if the government does not take action. It’s a critical time in the Philippines as you can see.

PRAY FOR IGSL Faculty Who Have Lost Loved Ones
Closer to home – several of the police special action force team were related to IGSL faculty.  One is a cousin of one of my best friends here.  One is a nephew of a couple Christine and I had dinner with last Friday (See picture above of him).  There is a lot of grief in the community.

PRAY FOR Ministry to Police Cadets and Officers
But, as you know IGSL has had an ongoing ministry among police academy cadets as we’ve shared.  At least 3 of those killed were involved in the IGSL affiliated ministry and one was a student leader for the ministry at the time. IGSL had just officially signed an agreement with the Philippines National Police Academy and is positioned to ministry to both cadets and officers who have been very much impacted by this tragedy. We have a team that does ministry at the Academy on a weekly basis. Please be praying!  The quote at the top though speaks to the power of IGSL’s long-standing presence in some of these strategic ministry areas. Our fellow faculty members were were a trusted presence for a critical time where there was a need for spiritual comfort and guidance.

PRAY FOR Ministry to Government Officials and Wisdom
But additionally, many of our executive leadership were invited this past week to talk with several members of the Congress and government.  God has opened doors for many of our faculty and students to ministry in pretty strategic circles in such a volatile and difficult situation. There is a degree of chaos politically and there are rumors that the current circumstances could provide an opportunity for the current government to be overthrown. Pray for the Christian leaders in government and among the police force to lead and influence with the wisdom of God.  Please pray that Philippine leaders would not cave to pressure, but lead with the best for the Philippines in mind. And pray for the safety and stability of the Philippines.

PRAY FOR IGSL Students & Grads Who Are Called to Mindanao
This tragedy inflames a lot of bad blood and anger, but we have many graduates and students who are training to plant churches in these very areas among the Muslim population in Mindanao.  They are deeply grieved.  Please pray for them because the cost of their calling is very real to them with such conflict and bloodshed so prevalent.  Pray that God would keep raising up bold and courageous men and women to bring Christ to Mindanao in the Philippines.

And please pray for the Philippines – there’s no space to get it into this, but the general sense we get from others is that this is a very big moment for the Philippines. Please pray that God sovereignly guides leaders and people to navigate circumstances here wisely.

God Bless!

Over the Hilla in Manila (Turning 40!)

In the last month, both Christine and I celebrated our 40th birthdays.  As we reflected, neither of us would have ever guessed we’d be celebrated the 4-0 in the Philippines.  The faculty here at IGSL hosted a special party for both of us and really blessed us.  We felt very honored and blessed that our colleagues here would go to such great lengths to show love to us and help us feel special.  It was a fun way to enter a new decade of life!

Please keep praying for us as we seek the Lord’s direction, but we’re so grateful that you are with us in this journey.  There’s times where we feel stretched so much, but we’ve seen God’s goodness and faithfulness in so many ways along the way. Thanks!

Love,
Brian & Christine & family

Typhoon Ruby Update

Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit) Update

Thank you for praying for us and the Philippines.  We were thankful that Manila was spared completely from destruction and the overall damage was far less than Yolanda.

Please pray for the central Philippines and the eastern islands as some were still hit very hard with significant damage. Some of these places were hit hard by Yolanda as well.  IGSL, CCC Philippines, and several local churches are continuing to partner to provide relief and community assistance in partnership with local churches and CCC staff in the affected areas.  Please pray for the restoration of the communities impacted along with church planting efforts in these areas as well.

There is still time to make an end of the year contribution to our ministry!

If we stay in Manila we will need to purchase a vehicle soon. If we return to the United States for a new role, we will have to purchase plane tickets.  No matter which direction God leads we will be facing over $10,000 in additional expenses beyond our budget. If God leads, we would love for you to pray about how you can help us meet those upcoming expenses.

Merry Christmas From Manila

Dear Partners and Friends!

There are several other things to consider cheap women viagra while finding your life partner. Erectile Dysfunction is currently perceived as one of the lowest cost cialis most common health troublesamong older men.

Merry Christmas!  There’s so much to celebrate of Christ’s entrance into and ongoing work in this world. We wanted to share one story that captures so many aspects of where we see God at work.

Last year a Nepalese man in the student mentoring group I (Brian) lead received deeply discouraging news about his and his wife’s prospects of having a child. I felt led one night to take Morgan with me to go pray with them and spend some time with them.  It was a special night of ministering to them, but also for Morgan and I as it was the first real window she got into the significance of what we are doing here at IGSL.

A couple months later against all odds, this couple discovered they were pregnant in answer to many prayers and they just had their son a few weeks ago.  This past week things came full circle as I took Morgan with me to the baby dedication service where friends from church and IGSL came together to dedicate baby “Shalom” to the Lord. It was a special, international celebration of a communities journey of faith together with this family.

But it was more than that.  This couple has invested a lot of time, as we’ve shared before, in ministry with a community of Nepali medical students here in Manila. He and others from Nepal at IGSL have been reaching out to the completely Hindu community of Manila Nepali graduate students.  All of these students were invited to the baby dedication and all of them came! They experienced an incredible environment of love and community, while also hearing the gospel shared in a way that was uniquely framed to speak to people from a Hindu background.

It’s a beautiful thing to see God at work in the world – to see people’s journeys of discipleship and faith, to see Christ’s body give witness to the one true God, and to see those who don’t know the Lord get clear invitations into the life they were designed for. We love that we get to be a part of these moments and it is even more special that our kids get to see God at work in these intricate, complex, and most beautiful of ways.

That is some of what Christmas represents to us this year and we pray that you are blessed in witnessing how God continues to bring glory to Himself by drawing people to Him through His Son.  And we are grateful for your faith in partnering with the Lord in what He is doing around the world!

Merry Christmas and God Bless!
