Global Leadership Consortium
Global Leaders!
Last week IGSL hosted Campus Crusade for Christ International’s “International Leadership Consortium” which included several of CCCI’s Global Vice-Presidents and many of the leaders of the other CCCI seminaries worldwide. IGSL has sister schools in Singapore, East Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Nigeria, and several other African nations.

I’ll be honest – I was extremely intimidated and nervous. By God’s grace it went well and it served as an encouragement and vision for some of what needs to take place worldwide at all of these schools for greater effectiveness and stewardship of our calling.
The week was a great experience of collaboration and discerning God’s leading for these schools for the future. It was an amazing time of fellowship with pastors, leaders, and scholars from so many continents! And we got to see a couple old friends – one of which was the staff member who presented the opportunity to come to IGSL to me 2 1/2 years ago! It’s fun feeling like we are a part of a global effort to raise up Christ-centered leaders who are multiplying disciples and impacting society for Christ. And one of the fun things is that the door may be opening for more students from Africa to come to study at IGSL!

True Love Ya Yan?
Do you see the picture above? This is a photo of a 1000 student outreach at a public high school that I (Christine) coordinated last month! Please keep reading to learn about just how amazing it was on so many levels. As we have shared in our time here, IGSL is committed to giving its students field ministry experience in evangelism, discipleship, and movement building so each student graduates with the skills of ministry (the hands) and not just the head (academics) or the character development (heart). But until now the Partners in Ministry program, made up of ministry spouses from over 20 countries, has never adopted its own ministry location for the purpose of exposing and training women for spiritual movement building. That has changed! My small group and I (CHRISTINE) were asked to plan a Valentine’s Day Outreach on relationship for 1,000 9th graders at a local high school. The event was held during the last 2 hours of school and the principle, who recently became a Christian through an IGSL student, asked us to put on the event. I was SO EXCITED! To have the opportunity to share the Gospel with 1,000 High Schoolers while they were at school was an amazing opportunity to me and something we could not do in most places in the world. This was an incredible event on so many levels. Most of the students at this school live in in makeshift houses on the side of the road (squatters). Most don’t have much money even for food, so we provided a healthy snack for them and gifts of school pens. We played games, we sang, and a local pastor communicated the gospel. Based on my experience I was not sure what the response would be, but the students CARED! They sat on the ground for 2 hours and smiled, participated, and stayed engaged the whole time. There was a hunger in their eyes for what was being offered. 304 students want us to follow-up with them to learn more about a personal relationship with Jesus. And one of the best parts about this whole thing is that the IGSL Partners in Ministry Women are going to be doing all the follow up with the female students! To recap – here’s what was AMAZING!
We have been here for almost 2 years now and I have to say this was one of my highlights of our whole time here! How incredible that God in his perfect timing would put me at the center of the planning of such a landmark event for the school? But the best part is seeing God use these ladies to proclaim the gospel to these students while at the same time providing much needed ministry experience and skills training for our IGSL women. Thank you for praying! In Christ, Brian and Christine |
Prayer Requests – Feb 19
HUGE OUTREACHChristine is now coordinating and leading an outreach for about 1000 high
school students on February 23. She’s coordinating the outreach with her small discipleship group. It’s been A LOT of work for her, but she’s pretty inspired by the opportunity. Please pray for the outreach, for the ministry and leadership development for the women putting it on, and for the follow up efforts to be made by the ministry team that we have regularly visiting the high school. The journey has been a challenging one with many twists and turns. But prayers were answered! The sentence was reduced to under 3 years which in Bhutan allows for a fine instead of jail time. This was as good of what could have been hoped for. Pastor Tandin (IGSL class of 2008) was able to pay the fine and return home to his family and continue his ministry! Read his letter to IGSL faculty and students in the wake of the news…. Dear IGSL Family, February 2, 2015 I, Pastor Tandin Wangyal, my wife Nengboi Chongloi and my three sons (Kuenrab, Phuensum and Jetsan L. Wangyal) extend our deepest thanks to all of you. God from Heaven has answered your unceasing prayers and tears with the miraculously victory in the Samste Royal Court of Justice. It has never happened before in such magnitude of constitutional fight of one’s own right of faith and religion in Bhutan. This truly is the answered prayers of millions! I am writing this to thank each one of you, as you stood with us through this entire ordeal journey. IGSL, each one of you stood with us by your prayers and moral support. There were times, when I did not know WHAT next? What will happen to my family, if I will have to serve the mandatory prison term? How will my children take this? What will be their view towards the Loving God, who says, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Those thoughts kept daunting in my lives! But God continued to manifest his presence in many ways even during such times as this. During this entire journey in our lives, God never deserted us. In fact, he continued to show His presence and love through dreams, angelic-visions, still voices and through the promises of His Holy Scriptures. His presence was further manifested powerfully, as I spent hours in prayer interceding for my family and freedom. Even during the darkest period in the dungeon, God’s promises of peace in John 14:27 were ever present in my life. Of course my “theology” was tested! If I have to give one and ONLY message out of this ordeal and that is the “Power of Prayer” that I learn in the school of sufferings. Every sun rise that I see and fresh air that I breathe in is the greatest freedom that God has given me. Now I am able hold my kids and wife in arms in freedom and joy. As a family, we make this resolution in 2015 that no matter what, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15). IGSL-Family, we love and thank you in millions for your unwavering support and unceasing prayers for us. Celebrate the Victory of the Lord! Tandin, Nengboi, Kuenrab, Phuensum and Jetsan L.Wangyal
Pastor Tandin and his faith in Christ through his suffering and challenges has been both sobering and inspiring to students and faculty here. Many students are quite aware that they may encounter similar struggles and it’s humbling to see them intentionally developing a foundation of character and faith to prepare for possible sufferings and persecutions. Continue to pray for Pastor Tandin and the leaders being raised up to take the gospel to the least reached parts of Asia! In Christ, Brian and Christine |

Can you teach us again from the word of God?” These were the words spoken by one of the 36 survivors of the recent “Mamasapano Massacre” as it’s being called to a fellow faculty member who was invited to minister to these survivors out of an original force of 78 police special action forces. Last week the Philippines experienced a national tragedy that has sparked much grief and political outrage. The implications are significant politically here and for IGSL as we’ll explain. Philippines police special action forces conducted an operation in Mindanao, where the Muslim rebels reside, to serve arrest warrants for high ranking terrorists, including one named Marwan who is one of the FBI’s most wanted. There are reports he was involved in a failed attempt to assassinate Pope Francis a couple weeks ago as well. A conflict broke out between the special action force and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the Bangsomoro Islamic Freedom Fighters. Amidst poor police coordination and no military backup, the special action force was caught between groups. But what happened after is where the outrage is – Over half of the 44 were still alive after the conflict yet these Islamic groups murdered all the wounded in horrific fashion. This all takes place during efforts to bring peace between the Philippines and Islamic rebels. Muslim countries in the area are putting a lot of pressure on the Philippines government to work out a peace agreement. Right now, that is in danger as many in the Philippines are crying out for retaliation and war. The police have threatened a walk out if the government does not take action. It’s a critical time in the Philippines as you can see. PRAY FOR IGSL Faculty Who Have Lost Loved Ones PRAY FOR Ministry to Police Cadets and Officers PRAY FOR Ministry to Government Officials and Wisdom PRAY FOR IGSL Students & Grads Who Are Called to Mindanao And please pray for the Philippines – there’s no space to get it into this, but the general sense we get from others is that this is a very big moment for the Philippines. Please pray that God sovereignly guides leaders and people to navigate circumstances here wisely. God Bless! Brian & Christine |
